Dudes wearing leather look powerful and intimidating. For me personally, leather itself does not turn me on (although I have friends who are sexually aroused by just the smell of leather). Certain guys who carry themselves a certain way, look great in leather. It makes me think of barbarians and extreme depravity. Men who are in complete control. It’s the power really.
I have heard that how it landed in the gay culture was through its roots in the Nazi regime, biker gangs, and military groups. Actual homosexuals who were in the military, back then took those outfits and made them into our power fantasies that we know now. You can definitely see similarities in BDSM outfits and the uniforms and the Caps of the military. The gay community has always taken bad things from homophobic attackers and turned them into something good and unique to our groups. In this case, it was turning extremely masculine military rhetoric into a sexual fetish.
